Around Hawker

There are so many things to see and do around Hawker. Below are just a few of our favourites but there are plenty more other things to do. If nothing interests your here, be sure to contact us so we can give you a full list of what is available.

Anyone visiting Hawker should go to Hawker hotel for a cold drink and a great feed. You can grab some lunch between 12pm and 2pm and dinner between 6pm to 8pm. 

After a breakfast and coffee? You cant go past Flinders Food Co open from 7:30am. Freshly made home made pies, pasties, sausage rolls, big breakfasts, egg and bacon damper roll plus lots more. Call in and see Doogal and Louise for a great feed.

Hawker general store is a great place to meet for a coffee and a cake or sandwich. You can also pickup some groceries including fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, milk, canned goods, etc. They also have a post office to accommodate all your postage requirements. 

Anyone visiting Hawker should head up to Wilpena Pound. It has a great hike either 12k or 21 k in distance to the top of St Marys Peak, 1200m high! Wilpena Pound is about a 30 minute drive from Windana Cottages.

Jeff Morgan has a fantastic gallery in Hawker. It is as good as it gets – a 360 degree view of some of the most beautiful country in South Australia as seen from the highest point of Wilpena Pound, St Mary’s Peak and the Flinders Ranges. He also has a ver large 15m panaroma painting that took over 4000 hours to complete which is a must to see. It a great so to spend a few hours and see the awesome paintings Jeff and other local artists have done. The gallery is only a 5 minute walk into Hawker from Windana Cottages.
